BANHS certified practitioners are authorized to apply for insurance via the AAPB application process center. The policy will be designed by Lockton, and underwritten by Lloyd's of London. The website has lots of information regarding your policy, so please take some time to look it over. If you are a student, practicing on friends and family, your policy will be different from the one you will need if you are conducting a business. Please see the examples below. If you would like to see example policies please see below: In the first example we have a student that has just been certified as a CBT. She is practicing primarily on friends and family, studying, and working towards her CBS. She has applied for $1million worth of malpractice coverage, and yet her premium is only $16 per year.
In this next example, we have a self-employed biofeedback practitioner working 20 hours a week. For $250,000 of coverage the premium is $181 per year and for $1million coverage her premium is $246 per year. When the weekly hours are increased to 40 the premium goes up to $334 for $1 million of coverage. This practitioner lives in LA but does not work on famous athletes, actors. As you can see, the premium is dependent on many variables. Each policy is customized to your specific needs. We encourage you to be honest as possible in order to insure proper coverage. The application itself is pretty straightforward. When it asks about AAPB and BCIA, answer "no" to the questions regarding those unless you are a member of AAPB or cerrified by BCIA. Answer that you are "certified". You will need to be BANHS certified to qualify for this insurance package.
At the end of the application you will be asked how you arrived at this page. BANHS is an associate of AAPB. The Lockton agent can see that you came via the BANHS site, but if you state it here it will expedite your application process because they wont have to verify it with us. Again, BANHS does not receive any compensation for the policy, but including this will insure your BANHS rate.
